Paper Cuts Records officially began in early 2007, based out of Ventura County, California. The music label primarily focused on various styles including experimental, noise, electronics, and improvised music, effectively showcasing an impressive array of artists, most of whom were rooted in California. Many of the talented artists featured were integral parts of a thriving community or collective, putting together festivals and shows wherever we could find an opportunity. Venues ranged from local bars to art spaces and galleries, successfully meshing art and sound while fostering an expansion of creativity and collaboration. So many unforgettable shows, remarkable music, gifted artists, and passionate people contributed to this vibrant and dynamic scene. In addition to the music, I also created our own zine called Paper Cuts, where we had the pleasure of interviewing these talented artists. Not only did we feature musicians from the music community, but we also highlighted various other artists crossing into different mediums and forms of expression. This zine served as a valuable documentation of sorts for events, reviews, and the artistic endeavors within our community. Over the years, Paper Cuts Records put out a total of 15 releases and published 5 issues of the zine. The label thrived for a strong 6 years, passionately supporting the scene until I made the difficult decision to shut everything down in late 2013.
